Gone Too Soon

On Thursday our staff received the worst news that any staff could ever receive; one of our colleagues had passed away that morning under suspicious circumstances. Many questions went through our minds…how? who? why? As we all cried and came to the realization that this was not a dream, we were forced to face the fact that our dear friend and colleague, Jolene Cote, would never walk through the staffroom door or grace the halls of GCMS ever again. This is devastating!

Thursday was hard but Friday was worse! This was the day that we had to come together as a staff and prepare to tell the students about the passing of a beloved teacher. In this day and age of social media, many students came to school that morning already knowing that Mrs. Cote had passed away. Like the staff, the students were shocked and were asking the same questions that we were…how? who? why? The students spent the morning reflecting on their interactions with Mrs. Cote and remembering the good times that they had spent with her. These memories became evident on the “In Memory of Jolene Cote” Facebook page.

The next few days, weeks and months, will be challenging for us as a school community. We are more than just a school, we are a family in every sense of the word. The students, teachers, support staff and parents are all members of the Greystone family and we are all feeling the loss of an incredible family member. They say that time will heal all wounds…I think that over time it will be easier and we will have learned to cope with our loss but we will never forget our amazing teacher, colleague and friend.

Rest in peace Jolene! May you fly amongst the angels!

Hug someone you love and I am sure Jolene will feel it to. May her soul rest in peace.
